Most of us have needed to buy software at some point to run our business or accomplish a specific function or task. This is often in response to a need that just won’t go away like needing a better invoicing system, or something that helps us create a blog on the Internet.

When it comes to a system that can run your tour operator business, the field narrows substantially because not just any software will do. It has to be designed with your business requirements in mind and this is where many applications fall short. So generally speaking you have several options at this point in your research:

Buy an off the shelf system and hope for the best

Buy an off-the-shelf system and customize it

Hire a developer or a development company to build something specific to your needs

There is one system that is far more expensive than any other. It:

costs more than any other

takes more time to develop

is full of headaches

promises much, usually delivers far less.

What system am I talking about? A custom system. This is a system that you have specially developed for you.

Many tour operators think that this is the Holy Grail, the ultimate system since it is designed for their exact needs. What they don’t realize is that they will spend many times more for a system like this and usually end up with far less than systems already developed. So why do it?

Usually people will do this because they feel that none of the systems out there meet their needs. This is usually not the case but a thorough review of available systems by a qualified technical person may prove this to be untrue.
